The Friends of Stanmore (FOS) are celebrating the launch of a new website dedicated to the country park situated around two miles east of Bridgnorth. The FOS are a volunteer group who work in partnership with Shropshire Council Rangers to manage the park, aiming to enhance biodiversity and maintain access for visitors.
The website aims to provide visitors from both near and far with detailed information about the country park, including its fascinating history as RAF Bridgnorth and access information so that they can better plan their trips and make the most of what it has to offer. The website also highlights the volunteer group including the various park management activities, as well as how new members can join and get involved.
Paul Griffiths, a regular user of the park and owner of Betelguise Web Design, based within the town, offered to build and freely host the site as a contribution to the activities of the Friend’s group. Lucy Hockenhull, who has a background in marketing and is Secretary of the FOS said “helping to design and create the content for the website has been really enjoyable and we hope it not only provides visitors with lots of useful information, but it celebrates everything the group has achieved since its formation nearly a decade ago and provides an archive of those activities. Before the launch of this site, when you googled Stanmore Country Park you were met with links to a site in north London, but nothing about our local park; this seemed crazy given the historic links of the site to the town and it’s something we’ve sought to rectify.
